Tenterden Counselling Service Formation and Funding

The Tenterden Counselling Service was formed in 1983 as the Tenterden Advisory Committee, after identifying the need for affordable counselling in Tenterden and the surrounding villages. The Service is a non-profit making charity with no political affiliation.

Over the years we have been kindly supported by a number of generous individuals, local businesses, trusts and community organisations. We are very thankful for any and all donations as these help us continue to provide a much needed service to the community.
As you may expect, we have seen a huge increase in demand in recent years and have responded with a steady increase in capacity. Having outgrown our previous accommodation, in August 2025 we moved to our new home on Tenterden High Street, with 5 consulting rooms. This has increased our costs quite considerably and we are now expanding our fundraising activities to support the service and its further expansion. If you would like to make a personal donation click here or contact ceo@tenterdencounselling.org.uk for donations from businesses.

Objectives

The service seeks to promote personal growth towards psychological and emotional health. It offers a professional service with counsellors whose work is professionally supervised.

TCS is committed to equal opportunities and welcomes everyone without discrimination as to class, culture, gender, transgender, sexual orientation, marital status, physical ability, race or religion.
TCS is not a crisis intervention agency so the Intakes Team is not expected to offer this service. Potential clients in crisis should be referred to the Kent Mental Health single point of access on 0300 2220123.

Clients who need assistance more appropriately offered by other agencies are referred to these agencies if possible.
